People often ask me how I get my dogs (and the dogs I am watching) to “be so good?” Honestly, I’m asked that question every couple of days. The truth of the matter is they learn so much from the other dogs in the pack. But, like all packs, it’s the pack leader that sets the standard. The hounds look to me for guidance and approval. Most of their reward comes from their own satisfaction in “doing the right thing.” Of course they recognize they have succeeded in presenting their best side through plenty of praise. The real learning and obedience though, come as a result of connecting with each dog as an individual. Dogs, like people, have their own personal style and abilities.

My methodology is based on figuring out who each particular dog is and finding the best way to connect with them. From that point we can move ahead and get them to be their contented best selves, become compliant partners in a happy life lived together and allow everyone in the equation to be contented, obedient and a joy to be around!
